Missouri Mom Wins Malpractice Case After the Death of Her Unborn Son
There’s no doubt that malpractice cases are very hard to win. Usually, jurors tend to side with the doctors in these cases because of the fact that their job is so difficult and because of the level of knowledge that they have. However, one Missouri mother is victorious after her malpractice case went to court.
According to an article on The Kansas Star website, an expectant mother who was forty-four years old at the time, suffered from two blood clotting disorders that led her doctors to place her on blood thinners. She began having pain in her side, and became worried that something was seriously wrong, so the woman went to the emergency room to get help.
Once in the ER, the decision was made to treat her there, and a sonogram revealed a hematoma (a pocket of blood) in her abdomen and gall stones. Instead of monitoring the hematoma, she was given pain medication and sent home. Two days later, she was found practically unresponsive at home by her stepdaughter. The hematoma had grown to the size of a volleyball, and her unborn baby had died from lack of oxygen.
