Injury Danger: School System Pays Out $337,000 in Personal Injury Settlements
Injuries are much more common on school grounds than most people think they are. When students or their parents are injured, the settlements from those claims can really add up. For example, the KRQE website recently ran a story about one school district that paid out $337,000 in personal injury claims in 2017. That was for 11 different personal injury cases.
The school district itself is very large. With more than 140 schools and around 80,000 students, they have their work cut out for them. Still, it’s their responsibility to ensure that students have a safe place to attend school.
One student tells a story of how she sat down on a concrete bench and it started to fall. She reached to catch it, and it fell on her fingers. This led to a permanent disfigurement and several surgeries to repair the damage. There have been many other cases that could have been prevented with proper maintenance.
As your St. Louis personal injury attorneys, we want you to know that these types of injuries can happen here as well. We’d like to think that schools would be safe places for our children to be each day. That’s just not always the case.
Please don’t think that there’s nothing you can do if your child is injured at school. It’s important to contact a St. Louis personal injury attorney as soon as you can for help.
