Driver Charged with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence
A Cahokia man was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence and failure to report an accident or death last Wednesday. He surrendered to police, after his mother convinced him to turn himself in, on Monday October 8. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the accident cost the life of a pedestrian from East St. Louis. Local police had found the vehicle with a passenger still inside just a few blocks away from the scene of the accident.
By turning himself in the driver certainly helped his own cause but leaving the scene of a fatal accident is could certainly make it difficult for this driver in court. There are no circumstances that can make this behavior understandable and prosecutors will likely seek punishment to the full extent of the law.
