It Could Happen in St. Louis: Nursing Home Resident Loses $2 Million

Nursing home neglect comes in all shapes and sizes. Most of the time, it is seen in the form of physical neglect because of patients being treated poorly by staff. However, there are times when the staff members of nursing homes actually take full advantage of the mental states of their residents, and cash in on them.

According to a recent article in the Miami Herald, one son has decided to sue his father’s nursing home because he discovered that $2 million had actually gone missing from his checking account. The allegations that have been presented state that it is believed that various staff members actually wrote checks out to themselves from the patient’s account, and either forged his signature, or forced him to sign them against his will.

The attorneys who are on the case are calling the situation financial abuse of an elderly person, which it clearly is.
