IRS Reports Hundreds of Injuries On The Job Every Year

When you think about locations where injuries are likely to happen, most people think of places like construction sites, factories with heavy machinery, and other such zones where the risk is deemed to be higher. You probably wouldn’t think that there would be a high number of injuries reported each year at a location like an IRS office. However, according to a recent article on the Accounting Today website, that’s exactly what’s happening.

Last year, the IRS reported approximately 800 instances of employee injuries on the job, and some of these could have been prevented. When these issues were investigated further, it was found that for thirteen of them, the circumstances that led to these accidents had not been remedied.

The injuries were various, but they were similar to what you might expect at an office job site, including slips, trips, and falls.

The biggest problem isn’t that the injuries happened, but that they’re not being properly reported. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) found that about 35% of the injuries did not have evidence of safety investigations being performed after the accidents.
