Mother Saves Daughter with a Push in Fatal Accident

This past year, 33 year-old Colleen Segbers was struck and killed in a Walgreens parking lot when an SUV apparently went out of control. It was a tragic accident that could probably have been easily avoided, but the reason why it grabbed headlines was the fact that Segbers saved her 10 year-old daughter’s life by pushing her out of the vehicle’s way.

The accident occurred when the 58 year-old driver of the SUV noticed that her vehicle was in drive while she was stopped in a handicap parking space. She tried to change gears and put her vehicle in park, but she accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brakes. The SUV went out of control and swerved toward Segbers and her daughter. Segbers pushed her daughter out of the vehicle’s path, but she was struck and killed at the scene.

An Outstanding Mother and a Dependable Friend

Colleen Segbers was well-loved in her community, and she was described by her good friend Daashia Cochran as “…an outstanding mother, dependable and honest friend, an ambassador of doing the ‘right thing.'” Cochran started an online fundraiser through Gofundme.com to raise money toward Segbers’s funeral.
