Should Speed Cameras Be Used In St. Louis?

In 2012, legislation was introduced in the State of Illinois that allows speed cameras to be used in cities where the population is more than 1 million people. This limits the use of these cameras to Chicago, only. However, according to an article on the KSDK.com website, Rep. Jay Hoffman has introduced legislation that would allow the cameras to be used in every community across the state.

It’s no secret that speeding continues to be a problem in St. Louis, and many car accidents on our roadways could be avoided if drivers were to only maintain the posted speed limits. So, what would happen if these cameras made their ways to the communities right here in St. Louis? It would certainly cut down on the number of speed violations, especially if drivers were to face a large fine every time they were caught speeding through areas where cameras are installed. In Illinois, drivers are fined up to $100 with each offense.

Until Missouri lawmakers put something similar in place in our own state, as your St. Louis law firm, we want to remind you that if you are ever in an accident because the other driver was speeding or driving recklessly, it’s important to contact an attorney right away. An attorney is an excellent legal advocate for you, and will make sure you’re compensated for your injuries and losses.
