Nursing Home Abuse

The estate of retired surgeon whose legs were broken while he was a resident of a nursing home facility was awarded $8 million in damages after a two-week trial.

It was alleged that the nursing home tried to cover up what happened when the patient was improperly transferred from a chair to his bed. The patient was transferred without a lift and by only one assistant, which, according to the nursing home’s care plan, required two assistants.

Because of a stroke, the patient was unable to tell anyone about the pain and agony he was experiencing from the fractures in his legs.

At Hoffman & Gelfman Attorneys, we are  committed to upholding the quality of care in our long-term care institutions by taking swift legal action to compensate nursing home residents and their families for injuries resulting from neglect or inadequate care.
