Failure to Diagnosis In Emergency Room
A woman will receive a $17.9 million settlement from a health care facility, doctors and city in a suit involving medical malpractice that resulted in the amputation of her hands and feet, according to court documents.
After being transported to an emergency room, the patient was sent home with pain killers after doctors diagnosed her as having kidney stones. She returned to the hospital the next day, reporting severe pain and numbness, but the medical team rejected her readmission. The following day, her fiance rushed her to a different hospital, where she was diagnosed with sepsis throughout her body and gangrene in her limbs before slipping into a coma.
In failing to properly assess and diagnosis her symptoms has rendered the woman now legally blind in one eye and the loss of both hands and feet.
Medical malpractice is a form of negligence where an injury results from the failure of a medical professional or medical facility (doctor, nurse, medical technician, psychiatrist hospital, or healthcare facility) to exercise adequate care, skill or diligence in performing a duty. A doctor has a duty to you to use care and diligence to diagnose your illness so that the proper treatment can be recommended.
