Nursing Home Neglect Results in One Resident’s Death After a Fall
It seems as though nursing home neglect is becoming a bigger problem in our country than ever before. One recent case involved a woman who fell after walking out a facility’s front door.
Earlier in the day, the woman had been evaluated by a physical therapist. A recommendation was made for someone to be with her, with a hand on her, every time she walked. Later that day, five staff members reported seeing her walking with a walker, unassisted. They didn’t do anything to intervene.
In fact, it wasn’t until the front door opened and the alarm went off that staff members responded. When they did, they found that she had fallen, face first, onto the concrete outside.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for multiple fractures. Her injuries were severe, and were the result of the walker becoming tangled in the door frame. The family chose to place her on comfort care in the hospital, and she passed away just two days later. This woman had only been a resident at this facility for a few days.
