Here’s What’s Happening in the Dangerous Product Lawsuit Against Bayer in St. Louis
Bayer had no idea what type of legal hot water they were getting themselves into when they acquired Monsanto in 2018. Since that time, they've had to deal with several lawsuits, and more than 11,000 of them are still pending. If you haven't been staying up to date with the latest news, we're here to inform you of what's been happening.
Why Are Lawsuits Being Filed Because of Roundup?
The weed killer Roundup contains glyphosate, which is a known carcinogen. For the last 40 years, billions of pounds of this chemical has been sprayed on crops in the United States. The World Health Organization labeled it a probable human carcinogen in 2015, which is when lawsuits started being filed.
The fact that Monsanto genetically engineered seeds that were resistant to Roundup only made the problem that much worse.
What Has Been Bayer's Response?
In response to the lawsuits, Bayer increased research in an effort to prove that there were no links between Roundup and cancer. Their efforts were focused in San Fransisco, where around 9,000 plaintiffs had filed lawsuits against the company.
