August Busch IV Settles Wrongful Death Lawsuit
The former CEO of Anheuser-Busch brewing company and great-great grandson of company founder August Busch has reached an agreement to settle a wrongful death lawsuit. The suit was filed against him in relation to the accidental death of his girlfriend Adrienne Martin. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the death was caused by an accidental drug overdose. Toxicology reports showed the drug oxycodone, a commonly prescribed painkiller, in her system. The wrongful death suit was brought by her son’s father for the benefit of their child and Martin’s parents won an appeal to allow them to join the lawsuit.
The claim was settled for $1.75 million. Most of the money, $1.3 million, will go to Martin’s son. Another award of $200,000 given to the child’s grandfather will be given to her son as well in the form of an annuity. It was a complicated case and there was a chance that a public hearing might be necessary to bring the case to a conclusion.
