Two Employees Injured in Olin Brass Explosion

An explosion that took place at the Olin Brass plant in East Alton recently has left two employees seriously injured.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the explosion, and OSHA was on the scene immediately following the incident. Olin Brass manufactures large rolls of brass sheet metal, which is used in different industries for a variety of purposes.

According to an article on the St. Louis Post-Dispatch website, the explosion could be heard from outside the plant. It was so powerful that a cloud of dust was sent up from the roof of the building.

Fortunately, the two employees were not killed during the blast. One was airlifted to a local hospital for emergency treatment, while the other was taken to the hospital via ambulance.
