Nursing Home Chain is Accused of Neglect and Elder Abuse
Finding out that your parent has been abused and neglected while under the care of medical professionals in a nursing home is every child’s nightmare. According to a recent CBS news article, a large west coast nursing home chain is being scrutinized for neglect and abuse of its patients.
Serious questions arose when a woman’s mother was admitted to one of the chain’s locations for rehabilitation care following a hospital admission for chest pains. The woman was there for five weeks, and then passed away from pneumonia and dehydration. Reports indicate that her body temperature was lower than 80 degrees when she was rushed to a nearby emergency room.
The doctors who cared for her immediately suspected elder neglect, as there have been several other instances of neglect at the various locations of this particular nursing home chain. In fact, visits to other locations revealed human waste odors and patients who appeared to be zombie-like in their movements and interactions.
