Nursing Home Complaints Experience a Surge in Recent Years: Is it Neglect?

One of the hardest things to do is place someone you love in a nursing home. However, all across the State of Minnesota, families have to make this decision every day. Most of the time, it’s because they have a family member who needs the kind of care that isn’t available any other way. For them, they’re placing their loved one in complete faith that they’re making the right decision.

However, recent neglect reports from nursing homes in Minnesota have surfaced that make it easy for families to take a moment to pause and reconsider whether or not placing a loved one is something they really want to do. According to an article on the DL-Online website, the number of nursing home complaints has soared – from 3,608 in 2010 to close to 17,000 in 2015. The article does note that these complaints often end up being unsubstantiated. However, there are some instances that are cause for alarm.

The article cites one nursing home that received 600 pages of complaints ranging from nurses being unavailable to tend to patients to failing to secure background checks for staff. These allegations resulted in the shutdown of this particular facility.
