Hoffman and Gelfman: Your St. Louis Personal Injury Attorneys

Just last month, a boiler at the Loy-Lange Box Company in the Soulard neighborhood exploded with such force, it traveled several blocks before landing on another business, leaving the St. Louis Personal Injury Lawyers at Hoffman & Gelfman to speculate regarding potential maintenance issues and how they may have contributed to the explosion.

Three Killed, Four Injured
As a result of the large explosion, three buildings, multiple businesses and individuals were affected, including one employee of Loy-Lange Box Company who reportedly died near the boiler at 222 Russell Boulevard. Two others died at Faultless Healthcare Linen at 2030 S. Broadway when the boiler crashed through the roof. The Pioneer Industrial Company at 400 Russel Boulevard was also damaged by an 8 foot pipe. Four others were taken to an area hospital, with two critically injured.

Three Buildings Affected, Some by Van-Sized Debris
The boiler was quite large, and ejected a large chunk of heavy cast iron debris the morning of the explosion nearly the size of a van. The St. Louis Fire Department will be investigating the maintenance schedule of the boiler, and whether it was being operated and maintained by a licensed boiler operator, as required.
